This amino acid is essential amino acid in his needed for the production of hemoglobin.  It is often taken by athletes because of its ability to enhance energy, increase endurance, and aids and repair of damaged muscle tissue.

It has been found that deficiencies in Isoleucine can induce symptoms similar to those of hypoglycemia.

If an individual chooses to take supplemental Isoleucine, it should be taken with a correct balance of 2 other amino acids, Leucine and Valine.

Sources of Isoleucine in food include: almonds, cashews, chicken, eggs, fish, meat, seeds, soy protein, liver and lentils.
