It is recognized as a building block for all the other amino acids.  It is a key component for the proper digestion of facts, absorption of fats soluble vitamins, and the control of serum cholesterol levels.

It has a tendency to protect the brain duirng times the dehydration.  It is also use to treat hyperactivity, poor brain function, seizures, epilepsy, and anxiety.  For reasons unknown, it’s concentaration is four times higher in children than in adults.  A deficiency of Taurine is known to exist in patients suffering from epilepsy.  There is an association between Taurine and zinc in epilepsy.  Down syndrome and muscular dystrophy sometimes improve through Taurine supplementation.

Certain metabolic disorders can lessen the amount of Taurine in the system, which can induce cardiac arrhythmias, intestinal problems, aggressive candida infection, emotional stress, and zinc deficiencies.  It is known that diabetes increases the body’s requirements of Taurine.  It is also known that supplementation of taurine and Cystine can lessesn the need for insulin.

Sources of Taurine in food include:  meat, fish, eggs, milk, and is not found in vegetable proteins.  Providing sufficient quantities of vitamin B6 are present, Taurine can be synthesized from Cysteine in the liver.
